"La Pasión" ("The Passion")

(Union City, NJ) The Union City Performing Arts Center presents a special theatrical production of "La Pasion" ("The Passion") directed by Ediberto Saldaña on Wednesday & Thursday, March 28 and 29, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Union City Prerforming Arts Center located at 2500 Kennedy Boulevard, Union City, NJ. FREE Admission. Free parking is available at the 23rd Street parking deck located at 23rd Street between Summit and Kerrigan Avenues. The play is performed in Spanish with English subtitles. This marks the first time the play is presented at the UCPAC.
SYNOPSIS
"THE PASSION"
This theatrical piece recreates the historical event based on the Gospel narrative of the Bible’s New Testament of trials by The Sanhedrin, a Jewish court consisting of 23 Judges, led by the High Priest Joseph Caiphas and his father-in-law Annas, against Jesus, known as the Nazarene. After finishing the Jewish Passover Dinner at the home of Joseph of Arimathea, Jewish merchant and scribe, Jesus goes to the Garden of Olives with his apostles to pray. There appears Judas Iscariot, one of his apostles who had agreed with Caiaphas to give up Jesus for 30 denarii for his apprehension. The Jewish Guard accompanied by a mob arrests Jesus and take him to the Jewish Council, which eventually presents him to Pontius Pilate, Roman procurator of Judea, to try him to death for desecration to the Messianic Jewish Law, for the intent of destroying the Jewish Temple and ascend to King. The Procurator feels the pressure of the Jewish leaders, and on the occasion of the annual Jewish holiday celebrated at the full moon, The Passover, orders his eventual death sentence by crucifixion (method of public punishment used in the Ancient Roman Empire as a warning to those who violated the law). They crucify Jesus, and who dies at the nona time before the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath (a Friday nightfall). Joseph of Arimathea reclaims his body and takes him to his new tomb where he is buried. The Roman Procurator orders to seal the door, and gives orders to the Roman soldiers to watch the entrance so that his followers do not steal the body. Three days later, Mary Magdalene and other women arrive at the tomb with the intention of performing the anointing ritual with oils to the inert body of Jesus. Upon arriving they find that the stone of the tomb is removed and there are no soldiers guarding the entrance; and enter to find that the tomb is empty, and the only thing that remains is the sheet that covered the body of Jesus. Jesus appears. Jesus is resurrected.

Our mission is to empower individuals and families in disadvantage position to bring and express up their artistic potentials thru the performing arts. The Passion of Christ (La Pasión de Cristo) performed in English and Spanish, as well as A Night in Bethlehem (Una Noche en Belén) are the two seasonal theatrical projects presented during the last three years. una presentación teatral especial
(Union City, NJ) El Union City Performing Arts Center presenta una producción teatral especial de "La Pasión" dirigida por Ediberto Saldaña el Miércoles y Jueves, 28 y 29 de marzo, 2018 a las 7:00 PM en el Union City Prerforming Arts Center ubicado en 2500 Kennedy Boulevard, Union City, NJ. Entrada gratis. Hay estacionamiento gratuito disponible en el parqueadero municipal localizado en la calle 23 entre las avenidas Summit y Kerrigan. La obra se interpreta en español con subtítulos en inglés. Esta es la primera vez que se presenta la obra en el UCPAC y en Español en Union City.
SINOPSIS
“LA PASIÓN”
Este montaje teatral recrea el acontecimiento histórico basado en la narrativa Evangélica del Nuevo Testamento Bíblico sobre los juicios por parte de El Sanedrín, tribunal Judío que consistía de 23 Jueces, liderado por el Sumo Sacerdote José Caifás y su suegro Anás, en contra de Jesús, conocido como el Nazareno. Después de terminar la Cena de Pascua Judía en casa de José de Arimatea, comerciante y escribano judío, Jesús se dirige al Huerto de los Olivos con sus apóstoles a orar. Allí aparece Judas Iscariote, uno de sus apóstoles que acuerda con Caifás entregar a Jesús por 30 denarios para su aprehensión. La Guardia Judía acompañada de una turba arresta a Jesús y lo lleva al Consejo Judío, que eventualmente lo presenta a Poncio Pilato, Procurador Romano de Judea, para que lo juzgue a muerte por profanación a la Ley Judía Mesiánica, intención de destruir el Templo Judío y sedición para convertirse en Rey. El Procurador siente la presión de los líderes judíos, y en ocasión de la fiesta judía anual que se celebra en la Luna llena, entiéndase La Pascua, ordena su eventual condena a muerte en la cruz (método de castigo público utilizado en el Antiguo Imperio Romano como advertencia para aquellos que violaban la ley). Crucifican a Jesús y muere a la hora de nona antes del comienzo del Sabbat judío (anochecer de un viernes). José de Arimatea reclama su cuerpo y lo lleva a su nuevo sepulcro donde lo sepulta. El Procurador Romano ordena sellar la puerta y ser vigilada por soldados romanos para que sus seguidores no roben el cuerpo. Tres días después, María Magdalena junto a otras mujeres llegan al sepulcro con intención de realizar el ritual de unción con aceites al cuerpo inerte de Jesús. Al llegar encuentran que la piedra del sepulcro está removida y no hay soldados custodiando. Entra ve que el sepulcro está vacío, sólo queda la sábana que cubría el cuerpo de Jesús. Jesús se le aparece. Jesús resucita.
EKKLESIA THEATRE PROJECT es un grupo experimental comunitario estacional de personas comunes (amas de casa, trabajadores de fábricas y minoristas, familias, padres solteros ...) de diversos orígenes étnicos y culturales comprometidos con actuaciones artísticas locales en conjunto relacionadas con cuestiones sociales, políticas y religiosas de nuestros tiempos. Nuestra misión es capacitar a las personas y familias en situación de desventaja para que expresen sus potencialidades artísticas a través de las artes escénicas. “La Pasión de Cristo”, en inglés y español, y “A Night in Bethlehem” (“Una noche en Belén”) son los dos proyectos teatrales estacionales presentados durante los últimos tres años. Estamos agradecidos con la ciduadania de la Ciudad de Union City, su Alcalde Brian P. Stack y la Junta de Comisionados, el Centro de Artes Escénicas de Union City y su personal por el privilegio y el honor de estar en su hermosa comunidad en esta ocasión tan especial.
