Live On Stage at Pastore Music

As part of Pastore Music’s commitment to live music, it has initiated “Live on Stage at Pastore's”, a monthly live music show at its main location at 507 - 32nd Street, Union City, New Jersey hosted by Lucio Fernandez.

“We are going to feature local groups and up coning talent and occasionally have more established group” according to Jerry Pastore the 3rd generation owner of the store that was established in 1939. Our next event is on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 3:00 PM at that time we will have live music and a ribbon cutting ceremony that will be attended by dignitaries.

The first “Live on Stage at Pastore's” was kicked off on Wednesday October 19, 2016. The FLYERS, in their 3 night New York City tour in October of 2016, made their first stop at Pastore Music in Union City. Patrick Farinas the group’s leader has had a lifelong relationship with the store pre-dating to his father’s musical roots in Union City in the 1970’s. Jordan and Joe were introduced on this trip and quickly became part of the family. Pastore provided the band with the musical instruments and gear they needed for their shows. The Flyers stuck around for an in-store demo of some of the vintage gear, which gave great inspiration to play the next few nights in the city. The tour concluded at The Bitter End in the village where they played to a packed house of family, friends, fans, and fellow musicians, including Will Lee, Bernard Purdy and Oz Noy. Bahia de Cochinos, Nuestra Perspectiva

Now available on DVD
“Bahia de Cochinos, Nuestra perspectiva"

“Bahia de Cochinos, Nuestra perspectiva" is a documentary film about the Bay of pigs as told through the eyes of Cuban Exiles who actually participated in the invasion.  Now, many years later, they contemplate the happenings and share their individual satires and feelings with us.  That story comes at a price, a price we ask them if they would be willing to pay again.  When all is said and done, are these past invaders resentful?  Do they cast any blame?  Who lost most in the Bay of Pigs invasion?

Featured in the film is testimony by members of the 2506 Brigade: Ángel Casabona Ruiz, Isidoro López González, Ricardo Montero Duque, Raúl Puig Sánchez, and Alvin Ross Diaz; as well as Sergio Gatria, director of the Cuban Information Center.  Their stories are moving and shed light of the infamous Bay of Pigs Invasion.  The film is bound to create some serious dialogue about what truly lies behind the events leading up to the invasion and the fallout thereafter.

The film is directed by renowned Cuban director, Ricardo Bacallao and Lucio Fernandez; and produced by MeLu Films and The Grace Theatre Workshop, Inc.; Megan Fernandez, Executive Producer.

(Please note, this film is completely in Spanish.)

NJ International Book Fair comes to Union City

Vigil for Orlando Victims and Flag-raising Ceremony of the LGBTQ Flag

(Union City, NJ) The City of Union City, Mayor Brian P. Stack and Board of Commissioners invite the community to a Vigil for Orlando Victims and Flag-raising Ceremony of the LGBTQ Flag in honor of LGBTQ Pride Month. The event will take place on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 12:00 PM at International Park, 38th Street & Palisade Avenue in Union City, NJ. The Mayor and Commissioners will be present, as well as other guest speakers. This event marks the first time that the City of Union City raises the LGBTQ Flag.

“Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The Stonewall riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as “Gay Pride Day,” but the actual day was flexible. In major cities across the nation the “day” soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBT Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.”

“In 1994, a coalition of education-based organizations in the United States designated October as LGBT History Month. In 1995, a resolution passed by the General Assembly of the National Education Association included LGBT History Month within a list of commemorative months. LGBT History Month is also celebrated with annual month-long observances of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, along with the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. National Coming Out Day (October 11), as well as the first “March on Washington” in 1979, are commemorated in the LGBT community during LGBT History Month.”

Mayor Stack says, “Please join us in solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives in Orlando. The Commissioners and I are devastated by the senseless act of violence that claimed the lives of all these innocent people and injured so many others. We grieve for them and for their friends, families and the entire community.”
