Cuban Cultural Program


The City of Union City will be hosting a Cuban Cultural Program on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Jose Marti Freshman Academy, 1800 Summit Avenue, Union City.

The event will include live music by the group "Habana 3"; a performance and art exhibit by Lourdes Simón; and typical Cuban food.  Among the persons being honored as "Distinguished Cuban-Americans of the Year" are Ivan Acosta, renowned film & theatre writer/director , and "Pipo" Felipe Martinez of the legendary musical group "Charanga 76". 
Admission is free.  Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

History/Herstory

The Union City Performing Arts Center proudly presents History Herstory...Where Truth Lies” starring Sarah Rice & David Vernon on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Union City Performing Arts Center, 2500 Kennedy Boulevard, Union City, New Jersey. Admission is free and parking is available at the 23rd Street Parking Deck located on 23rd Street between Summit & Kerrigan Avenues.

The show is an evening of song, chosen from the International and American songbooks, by composers such as MECANO, Sondheim, Herman, Kander & Ebb, Poulenc, Rogers & Hart, and more, exploring how 2 people can look at the same thing and yet see something different.
From earliest childhood, our most cherished bed-time stories and fables shape our view of the world and ourselves, how we fit into the world and how we are supposed to behave with one another. 
Things don't always work out as we are taught to believe they will, often in surprising ways...

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners announce that the City of Union City will hold a Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Jose Marti Freshman Academy, 1800 Summit Avenue, Union City.

The event will include invited guest speakers; live mariachi music;  Mexican dancers; and typical Mexican food.  
Admission is free and everyone in the community is invited to attend.

The Union City Artist Awards... Honoring artists of all disciplines who have contributed to Union City's artistic fabric.  Coming... June 2012!!!

Benefit Gala to Support Art Youth Group

The Grace Theatre Workshop, a not-for-profit youth based organization dedicated to providing FREE classes in the performing arts to children, will be holding their annual Spring Benefit Gala on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the luxurious The Graycliff, 122 Moonachie Avenue, Moonachie, New Jersey.  The Gala will feature live performances, delicious dinner and open bar, dance music, and a great time.

Now into its eleventh year, The Grace Theatre provides free classes in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap/Rhythm, Folkloric Dance/Salsa, Flamenco, Singing, and Acting to children from Hudson County as well as free admission to professional performances to the students and their families.

The Grace Theatre Workshop, Inc. has received much critical acclaim for its professional theatrical productions and is the premiere presenter of bilingual and Spanish language theatre in the State of New Jersey.

Union City Art Gallery at City Hall

(Union City, NJ)  Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners announce that the City of Union City will host their April art exhibit at the Union City Art Gallery at City Hall with an opening reception on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 6:00 PM.  

The art exhibit will feature artists Sigfrido Duarte, Victor Lopez, and Annie Merritt. Union City Art Gallery curator, Amado Mora and the Union City Artist Collective, is organizing the event  Refreshments will be served and admission to the event is free.

The Union City Gallery at City Hall is dedicated to giving local artists a free space to showcase their art as well as to continue the City’s mission of encouraging more art in the City and improving the quality of life of all its residents.  The Gallery will feature different artists in monthly exhibits.  Artists that would like to be included in future exhibits should contact the Union City Office of Public Affairs at 201-348-5746 for more details.
