Made In Guasmo... in Union City

(Union City, NJ)  The Union City Performing Arts Center in conjunction with Procreart, Inc. are pleased to present the Comedy Company of Cecill Villar in a play by the Ecuadorian writer Felix Andres Martines "Made in Guasmo" on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Union City Performing Arts Center, 2500 Kennedy Boulevard, Union City, New Jersey.  Admission is free.

If there is a "Made in USA", "Made in France", "Made in Italy" why not ... a "Made in Guasmo"...?  This comedy sensation takes a look at another side of our community, however the situation may take place anywhere, even in some other country. It is a hilarious comedy with a hint of social criticism, aiming to reflect what takes place in a poor neighborhood where people try to survive life's deficiencies. A typical poor family trying to prove otherwise and thinking that by marrying their daughter to a millionaire "gringo" will solve their problems. A dominant mother, a not very skilled father, a daughter with no personality, and the classic maid who likes to criticize… The situation makes for great fun and an intoxicating comic cocktail. Come laugh from start to finish with this comedy and its leading characters played with comic precision by Edison Carrera, Franco Galecio, Stalin Cando, Paola Myerstone, and Jesus Martinez.

The play is directed by Cecill Villar; Scenery and Production Assistant, Edison Carrera; and Director of Art Design, Franco Galecio

V-Day in Union City

V-Day Hudson County celebrates the power of women with performances of "The Vagina Monologues" in February

UNION CITY, NJ (January 15, 2013)  The City of Union City in conjunction with the Office of the Poet Laureate, Ben "BrokenEnglish" Figueroa present a production of The Vagina Monologues, an award-winning play by Eve Ensler.  Performances will take place on Friday, February 15 at 7:00 PM, Saturday, February 16 at 7:00 PM, and and on Sunday, February 17 at 5:00 PM at the William V. Musto Cultural Center, located at 420 - 15th Street, Union City.

The world-renowned play consists of colorful performances by an all-female cast, with monologues that address women’s issues. The goal of V-Day Hudson County aligns with the goal of the global V-Day campaign: to bring attention to the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sex slavery.
“This is one of the most critical movements of all generations; past, present and future,” The Vagina Monologues: Hudson County Director Yenexis Quintana said. “This play creates the opportunity for all to listen to and speak about the stigmas surrounding women, their sexuality and to break out of the silence surrounding rape and abuse. It is a poignant outlet for expression and all emotions surrounding the beauty and strength that is a woman.”

Ticket prices for all performances are $25, or $20 with a student ID. Reserve tickets by contacting Yenexis Quintana at 201-936-3162 or at HCVaginaMono@gmail.com. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the performances.  All proceeds will be donated to Women Rising Inc. of Jersey City and the global V-Day campaign.
